Tragic accident this evening on the A18 Messina-Catania motorway. Around 7.15pm an independent crash occurred near Roccalumera, along the road towards Messina, resulting in one death and one serious injury. The car, in which a couple from Messina was travelling, lost control and crashed into the barriers, overturning on the roadway and ending up on the emergency lane: in the accident the woman behind the wheel, 54-year-old N.T., a Russian national, lost her life, while her companion who was in the passenger seat, the 61-year-old GM from Messina, suffered a deep wound to his right leg.
Two 118 ambulances from the Santa Teresa di Riva and Taormina stations intervened on the scene: the first attempted to resuscitate the woman, but there was nothing that could be done for her, while the second emergency vehicle transferred the injured person, who was not in danger of his life, to the Messina Polyclinic. The patrols of the Traffic Police of the Giardini Naxos Subsection and the Fire Brigade of the Letojanni Detachment intervened on the A18.
