U-turn on professional training, Schifani brings his councilor into line

It all arose, Renato Schifani wrote yesterday to councilor Mimmo Turano, “from the heavy critical issues generated by the revocation of notice 33”, the notice which had already assigned the managing bodies 260 professional training courses, and a budget of 81 million, to be started in September coinciding with the start of the school year.
And the premise alone is the signal that at Palazzo d’Orleans after two weeks of chaos in the sector they have broken the deadlock: the maneuver with which the Northern League councilor attempted to reopen the doors of training to entities left out of the ranking of notice 33 must be stopped, bringing the clock back to mid-June, that is, to before Turano revoked the notice and announced a new one.

The letter was sent by the president to the councilor last night. And in the introduction Schifani does not fail to also mention “the strong protest from organizations and trade unions”. Concerned that the cancellation of the announcement and the restart of the organizational machine a month and a half after the first bell could put the start of lessons and the salaries of the workers at risk. Among other things, these are courses created as an alternative to the final years of high school.

These are fears that Schifani has made no secret of sharing: «It seems clear that the revocation of notice 33 and the preparation of a new one will almost certainly lead to a delay in the start of courses compared to the beginning of the school year. And this is in stark contrast to the primary aim of combating school dropout.”

For all these reasons, Schifani got to the heart of the matter in just a few lines by ordering the councilor in writing to “review his position on the planning acts adopted so that the general manager adopts the necessary consequential measures aimed at starting the training courses within the legal timescales”.
