“U Zitu Morocchinu”: in Messina the theater that unites without barriers

Theater as a passion that unites and breaks down every barrier. The theater that made the large audience present last night (Sunday 11 May 2025) entertain and excite, at the Auditorium of the Collereale Institute of Messina with the comedy “U zitu marchcchinu” of the Sicilian theater company Alba Night. The show, full of sketches and twists and turns, tells the love story of a young Sicilian university student and a boy born in Tunisia opposed by her family.

The event was promoted by the Inclusive Messina Blind Association – whose president is Raffaele Carbone- which aims to use art and the show to encourage the elimination of “barriers”. In fact, they were the blind and partially sighted actors. Director, as well as actor, of the comedy was the Messina Giuseppe Arena; Author The Messina Nunzio Cocivera. The evening was conducted by the journalist Lilly La Fauci. At the end of the show, a musical moment was dedicated to all mothers on the occasion of their party.

The history of the theater company.
The theater company was born on October 5, 2024, at the end of what was to be a simple meeting between former students of the Institute for Blind Tommaso Ardizzone Gioeni of Catania during which various performances were planned by some former students. Giuseppe Arena, director and actor of the various theatrical performances organized later, has thought of performing in a short comedy in Sicilian language: in a few days together with the other former Sicilian students Biagio Milazzo of Barcelona Pg, Orazio Gianguzzo di Catania, Giusy Militello di Regalbuto (EN), and Giuseppe Lentini of Leonforte (EN), he prepared “the gruff” comedy ” Written by Francesco Chianese. To facilitate the “tests” was the use of new technologies that allow remote meetings. The success of that first experience led the newbies to cultivate the art of acting constantly preparing for other comedies. The actors mentioned previously were added: Agrippina Cuddè of Catania, Raffaele Carbone of Messina, Claudio Baluce di Messina and Graziella Sciacca of Messina. The Messina Blind inclusive association married the project of the theater company by organizing and promoting its events.
