The fire at the Tyumen refinery
An oil refinery in the Russian city of Tyumen, in western Siberia east of Yekaterinburg, almost 2,000 kilometers from Ukraine, caught fire following a drone attack. The Ukrainian media writes it Ukrinform which quotes the governor of the Russian region reported by the military site’s Telegram channel Astra.
«Following the attack… an enemy drone crashed inside the Tyumen oil refinery, causing a fire. Rescuers are working on site,” said regional governor Aleksandr Moor, according to reports Astra.
At the moment there is no information on any victims or on the extent of the damage. Tyumen residents reported hearing at least two explosions and the activation of air defense systems, as well as seeing smoke rising above the refinery.
What is the affected plant
The Tyumen Oil Refinery (a subsidiary of the Moscow company Ri-Invest) is the only large oil refinery in the Ural Federal District. It is one of the largest independent oil refineries in Russia, located in the industrial area of the city. The plant has a capacity of approximately 8 million tons of crude oil per year and reaches a refining rate of 98%. The main products of the plant include Euro 5 diesel fuel, stable gas gasoline, petroleum coke, bitumen and fuel oil.
