The energy bill in 2023 was equal to 66.5 billion euros, almost 48 billion less (43%) compared to the 114.4 of 2022 which was the historical peak. This was stated by the president of Unem, Gianni Murano, at the annual assembly explaining that «the sharp decline in the gas component from 62 to 28.3 billion euros had an impact». The oil bill was also smaller at 28.1 billion euros, about 4.5 billion less than the 32.5 of 2022 due to the drop in oil prices. In 2024, the energy bill is estimated at around 56 billion, that is 10 billion less than in 2023 almost entirely due to the gas component.
