US helicopter crashes in Australia: twenty marines on board. Three dead and five seriously injured

At least three of the US marines who were aboard the Osprey aircraft that crashed off Darwin, northern Australia, during a training exercise, have diedaccording to official US Marine sources.

“There were a total of 23 people on board. Three were confirmed as dead, while five others were transported to Royal Darwin Hospital in serious condition,” the source said. The Osprey V-22 is a tiltrotor, a hybrid between an airplane and a helicopter, with two horizontal rotors at the wingtips for vertical take-off and landing, which reposition forward as propellers for flight.
