An American flag ship was blocked in the port of Gioia Tauro after an inspection on board of the Port State Control Inspective Coast Nucleus would have serious irregularities. In particular, according to reports, the unit was without the compulsory certification provided for by article 12 of the EU Regulation on the recycling of ships that imposes on shipowners to equip the non-EU ships, arriving in the ports of the Union, an inventory of dangerous materials and the relative certificate of conformity. Further irregularities would also be ascertained with reference to the safety of navigation and compliance with maritime work regulations.
In light of the ascertained violations, A detention order was issued that prevented the ship from continuing navigationsubjecting their departure to restore the safety conditions provided for by international legislation. In addition, in implementation of the provisions of the 99/2020 legislative decree on the recycling of ships, one has been high penalty to be paid by the commander and the company landing company of 10,000 euros.
