The primary of gynecology of the Jazzolino hospital in Vibo Valentia Vincenzo Mangialavori today announced its resignation, for “deep and serious reasons” but “that nothing have to do with the events recently reported by the media and which have somehow involved the department I led by me”.
The reference is to the cases of the death of Martina Pisà, 32 years old, in the seventh month of pregnancy that took place on May 4 in the Jazzolino hospital where she had been hospitalized following the death of the child she brought on her lap and that of a woman of Malian origins who knew while she was hospitalized in the death of her son. On the two cases investigates the Public Prosecutor of Vibo Valentia.
«I take advantage of this vehicle, to publicly offer my most heartfelt condolences, together with those of my department staff, to the families affected by mournful events. Regarding the immense tragedy of Mrs. Pisà – says the doctor – the obligation to specify that the death is not attributable to the work of the staff of my department. In fact, the patient came to us with a fetus already devoid of cardiac activity and after a few minutes from her entrance, she recorded herself a cardiac arrest for which, despite the immediate and correct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that unfortunately has been done, there was nothing to do.
The pathology that determined the death, in light of the data available to us, is not attributable to an obstetric cause. The same goes for the second case: the patient came to the hospital in very serious clinical conditions with the diagnosis of abortion in progress which caused a massive hemorrhage that was leading her to death. The competent and timely intervention of the staff made it possible to save her life ».
“The staff of the Iazzolino – supports – deserves a applause and certainly not a complaint to the carabinieri, nor the media lynching that with too ease and lightness is implemented above all on social networks, whenever episodes of the genre occur”. «Instead, regarding my resignation – concludes Mangialavori – I wish to clarify that I have been the result of a reflection that has been accrued for some time. As soon as they are installed, I have the requests for equipment that could allow us to provide efficient and adequate health services.
Despite countless stresses, these requests are still unheeded today. I leave this assignment with great bitterness, but with the clean and proud conscience of those who have always worked with dedication and competence, always acting in total respect of patients, colleagues and the profession that I have carried out with honor and pride for more than thirty years “.
