An important signal of responsibility comes from the Municipality of Vibo Valentiawhere politics has decided to reduce its costs to encourage investments for the benefit of the community. The mayor announced it Enzo Romeowhich fulfilled a key campaign promise.
During yesterday’s city council meeting, Romeo brought together the majority and the councilors to address the issue of cuts to emoluments, receiving unanimous support to proceed. In the evening, the council approved a further 20% cut in the salaries of the mayor, aldermen, city councilors and prime minister. This is in addition to a 10% reduction already in place, bringing the total to 30%.
The measure, operational from 1 January 2025, will allow savings of around 200 thousand euros per year. These funds will be used to improve schools, green areas and essential services for families and children.
“We wanted to give a concrete example, demonstrating that politics can respect the commitments made to citizens”, declared the mayor. The initiative was welcomed as a testimony of sobriety and responsibility, underlining the progressive coalition’s desire to put the city’s well-being first.
A gesture which, in addition to economic savings, represents a signal of transparency and coherence on the part of the municipal administration of Vibo Valentia.
