The impact was violent, shortly after 7 in the morning, along Viale Emilia, in the southern area of Catanzaro, a few steps from the shopping centre. Three cars – a Fiat Panda, a Citroën C3 and a Fiat 500 – collided in an accident that transformed the road into a tangle of sheet metal and broken glass.

Four people were injured. The two occupants of the Fiat 500, trapped in the destroyed passenger compartment, were extracted by the Fire Brigade of the Catanzaro Command, who intervened with the teams from the headquarters and the Sellia Marina detachment.

After the delicate rescue operations, the injured were entrusted to the 118 medical staff, who transported them to hospital for the necessary treatment. The drivers of the other two cars, although in less serious conditions, were also taken to the Catanzaro hospital for checks.

The Fire Brigade, in addition to the extraction operations, took care of making the vehicles and the area safe, while the State Police and Local Police managed the traffic and investigations of the accident. During the rescue operations there were severe traffic slowdowns, with traffic permitted only on one alternating one-way lane until the end of the intervention.

The causes of the accident are still under investigation.
