“In reference to the news published this morning by Southern Gazette on the bypass and related water transport from Siciliacque to Taormina, it is specified, for the umpteenth time, that the service has always been regulated by the current agreement, which provided for the water supply to Taormina by Siciliacque. It is important to remember that this agreement was created to address the technical impossibility of serving some areas of the municipal territory of Taormina by Siciliacque via the Alcantara aqueduct from the delivery point in the Cuculunazzo district”. This was declared by the mayor of Taormina Cateno De Luca.
“Following numerous meetings between Siciliacque, the Municipality of Taormina, AMAM and the Messina Water Territorial Assembly, a technical solution was identified which involved the construction of a bypass and the role of simple conveyance by AMAM, with the aim of allow Siciliacque to supply Taormina with the water resources envisaged in the supply contract between the Municipality of Taormina and Siciliacque. Thanks to this solution, Siciliacque was able to supply Taormina with a reduced quantity of water, 14/ls compared to the 60/ls foreseen in the supply contract between Taormina and Siciliacque, for the benefit of all the other municipalities served by the pipeline. Since the end of August, Siciliacque has gradually reduced the water supply, until the definitive cessation of the service in recent days. This decision was motivated by an optimization of local water resources, thanks to the identification of a new source of water supply, the new Siphon well which, following the certification of the drinkability of the water, could be used, if necessary, within a few hours with a specific mayoral ordinance”.
“Some people still don’t realize that Taormina has been there for over twenty years – De Luca points out – benefited from the summer relief of approximately 8/ls from Amam, relief which remained in force for Giardini Naxos and was no longer necessary for the municipality of Taormina. We have repeated it ad nauseam and we will continue to repeat it: Siciliacque supplied Taormina as per the agreement. Water paid for by Taormina and destined for Taormina by supply contract. Anyone who still insists on affirming the contrary does so exclusively in bad faith and with malice to the detriment of the community and the truth. We certainly do not expect a thank you for having saved us 50/ls with the introduction of the bypass to the precarious system of management and distribution of regional water resources, but we cannot accept the usual scavenging (this now seems to be her job!) of Senator Musolino who avoids discussions on the merits of the issues preferring to continue to play the role of keyboard lioness.”
Senator Musolino’s note
“I learned this morning from the press that the water bypass that brings water from Messina to Taormina has finally been disconnected. While waiting for an official note from AMAM and the Municipality of Messina, taking the news as true, I express great satisfaction”. This is what the senator of Italia Viva wrote Daphne Musolino.
“This closes – continues Musolino – a sad chapter in the Messina municipal administration with which a municipal company of the Municipality of Messina has attempted to manage the water service in favor of another Municipality without even consulting the City Council. In all this, the Mayor of Messina has remained silent and inert”.
“The data on the quantity of water supplied to the Municipality of Taormina – underlines the senator of Italia Viva – still constitute an unknown quantity today, since the declarations provided in the press conference/show of the two Mayors, who carried out completely extemporaneous findings but without providing certain data regarding the actual quantity of water unexpectedly transported to the Municipality of Taormina and the corresponding payment made to the Municipality of Messina”.
“It is certain that the water in Messina has been flowing normally again for a few days. To think that this is just a coincidence would be equivalent to considering us all as new Candides by Voltaire. Therefore, I hope that the City Council is able to shed light on this matter which, I repeat, I consider a dark page in the city administration and a terrible example of management of the res publica”. Thus concludes Senator Dafne Musolino.
