A couple from Punjab’s Mianwali district allegedly killed their two-month-old daughter because they were dissatisfied with the birth of another baby girl, police said on Thursday. According to investigators, the newborn, Palwasha, drowned in a domestic water tank. The police said that both the father and mother were unhappy with the birth of a daughter and that their frustration drove them to kill the child and throw her into the tank. The police arrested the father, Shahzad, while the mother fled and is wanted by the authorities. During interrogation, Shahzad allegedly confessed, telling officers that the couple hoped for a son and did not want another girl. The state has launched a murder investigation and further investigations are underway, while police continue to search for the mother.
