After the heat, the weather also changes in Sicily. The day to watch for the return of the rains is especially Saturday 12 September, when showers and thunderstorms are expected, together with a decrease in temperatures. The Air Force indicates precisely between Calabria and Sicily one of the areas where the phenomena may be more probable and intense.

When it rains in Messina

For Messina city the forecast indicates the possibility of precipitation already on Saturday morning, without excluding other episodes in the afternoon. The distribution remains irregular: it is not possible to establish a certain start time for the rain for the entire city and the Strait. The time indications should therefore be considered as forecast windows, not as appointments.

Meanwhile, already on Friday 11 September, the regional civil protection bulletin contemplates isolated or scattered rainfall, including downpours or thunderstorms, with generally low quantities. A first sign of instability which does not mean widespread rain across the entire island.

Tyrrhenian Messina, possible even intense thunderstorms

The Sicilian Meteorological Center draws attention to the Tyrrhenian sector of the province, where maritime storms may develop on Saturday. In the afternoon other phenomena will be possible in the central-eastern areas of Sicily, with possible spillovers towards the Ionian coast.

Some storms may be locally intense: alternating with dry breaks does not exclude more marked episodes. The iLMeteo analysis also identifies the Sicilian Tyrrhenian side among the areas to be followed with greater attention.

Temperatures dropping, Sunday still variable

Saturday will also bring a decrease in temperatures, accompanied by northern currents. However, a uniform return to stability is not expected for Sunday 13 September: according to the Air Force, cloud cover and occasional showers or thunderstorms may persist over eastern Sicily.

The forecasts of the phenomena remain distinct from the Civil Protection alert levels, to be verified in the regional warnings valid for each day.
