Origins and training

Born on 11 August 1949 in Rende (Cosenza), Sandro Principe is the son of Francesco Principe, historian socialist leader and president of the regional council of Calabria in the 1980s. Raised in an environment imbued with politics, he followed the pternal footsteps, graduating in law and undertaking his forensic career.

Political career

Principe began his political activity in the Italian Socialist Party (PSI), becoming Mayor of Rende in 1980, a position he held until 1987. During his mandate, he promoted innovative urban planning policies, transforming it from a peripheral village to dynamic city with the highest GDP per capita in Calabria.
Elected deputy in 1987 and reconfirmed in 1992, he was Undersecretary for Work in Amato and Ciampi governments. In 1999 he returned to guiding he made as mayor, obtaining a re -election in 2004 with 78% of the consents, despite a serious attack immediately during the electoral campaign. In 2005 he was elected regional councilor on the Union list in support of Agazio Loiero, assuming the position of Councilor for Education, Culture and Technological Innovation in the Regional Council of Calabria. In 2010 he was re -elected regional councilor on the lists of the Democratic Party, becoming Pd Pd Pd to the Regional Council.

Judicial events

Principe was involved in the “Rende System” investigation, accused of external competition in mafia association and exchange vote. After being acquitted in the first and second instance, the Court of Cassation canceled the sentence with postponement, requesting a new process for lack of motivation.
