Health emergency in Calabria, the Democratic Party: “Here are the numbers of Occhiuto’s failure”

The Group of PD in the Regional Council forcefully denounces, once again, thehealth emergency that continues to plague our region, highlighting how the president’s propaganda Eyed clashes with concrete data that tell a dramatic reality. “According to the data analyzed by the State-Regions Conference which led to the distribution of the 2024 health fund, Calabria spent 336 million euros to guarantee its citizens treatment outside the region. A figure that is even increasing compared to 2023, and which is destined to grow further due to the stop to the Covid moratorium which had temporarily suspended the compensation mechanisms between the regions”. “These numbers speak clearly – say the Dem councilors -: passive healthcare mobility, which forces thousands of Calabrians to move to receive adequate care, is proof of the total failure of the Commissioner ad acta’s action for the recovery plan. The proclamations about an alleged revolution in regional healthcare were of no use. Calabrian hospitals continue to experience a structural crisis, between staff shortages, closed departments, unsustainable waiting lists and a total inability to attract professionalism. The much publicized “normalization” of Calabrian healthcare therefore turns out to be a cosmetic operation, while citizens suffer the weight of a collapsing system every day. The expense for passive healthcare mobility is not just an economic figure: it represents a condemnation for families, who have to face enormous sacrifices, both economic and emotional, to access care that should be guaranteed locally”. “Occhiuto’s failure as Acta Commissioner is now clear for all to see. We strongly ask that the national and regional government put an end to this failed management, and that an extraordinary intervention plan be launched to address the structural critical issues of Calabrian healthcare”.
