During the VHSL 3 -3 indoor state championships, a shocking episode occurred in the 4 × 200 meters relay race at the Liberty University of Lynchburg, Virginia. Kaelen Tucker, Brookville High School athlete, was hit in the head with the witness by an ic Norcom High School opponent while trying to overcome it in the curve.
The accident on the track
The young sprinter described the incident by saying that the opponent started pushing her with her arm as they were in curves. Once passed, the latter reacted with a violent gesture, hitting Tucker with the witness and making her fall to the ground. The impact caused a brain emotion and a possible fracture of the skull, forcing it to receive immediate medical assistance.
Disqualification and reactions
The accident led to the immediate disqualification of the IC NorCom High School team for contact interference. However, Tucker’s family expressed frustration and disappointment, underlining the lack of apologies both by the athlete involved and the coach of the opposing team.
