“With our investigation we reconstructed a temporal period, which goes from 2017 to 2022, in which they recorded not only in Calabria, But also in Puglia and Sicilydozens and dozens of landings, for a total of 10,544 migrants, on the eastern Mediterranean route. Not occasional landings, but an expression of a serious criminal phenomenon, well organized and structured ». This was said by the prosecutor of the Republic of Reggio Calabria, Giuseppe Lombardo, meeting the journalists on the operation performed by the SC and by the Reggina Mobile Squad that led to the arrest of 25 people. The people involved are accused of having been part of an international network of migrant traffickers who practiced his activity between Türkiye, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
“There have been identified – added the Lombard prosecutor – four distinct associative structures synergistically linked together. An organization that has proven to be capable of adapting its activities to the changed geopolitical conditions. A group, therefore, very structured and complex. For each trip the price paid by each migrant varied between five thousand and twelve thousand euros. For the investigations, a dense international interlocution has developed which concerned countries such as Malta, Poland, Greece, Albania, Georgia, Montenegro, Turkey, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova. These are not interlocutions equal to those that we have constantly with countries traditionally linked by international cooperation profiles with Italy. Interlocutions that led to the establishment of a common investigative team with Georgia, Ukraine and Greece and to a stable collaboration in this sense “. Thanks, therefore, to the ministers planted, Tajani and Nordio, from which we had immediate answers precisely because only with immediate answers can we obtain certain results and to create the conditions for a certain type of work to be done with the necessary attention “.
