73 Migrants in failure on a sailboat off island CR: saved by the Coast Guard of Crotone

The Crotone Coast Guard saved 73 migrants who were on a sailboat in failure about 30 miles from Capo Rizzuto.

The rescue mission was taken after 2 pm this morning. The patrol boat CP 311 took the sea to intercept around 4 pm a sailboat aboard which there were 73 people, including 18 minors. The sinking and transboria operations were very complex because of the unavailable weather conditions: strong wind from the south with a strength 6. To help the Coast Guard unit also went to the rescue a hill fishing boat that made it possible allowing to limit the wave motion. During the operation, the soldiers of the Port Authority of Crotone had to cope with several problems including the breakdown of the Bitte of the sailing boat and different peaks. After finishing the transfer, the patrol boat broke towards Crotone where, shortly after 20.30 the landing took place. 73 people from Iran and Afghanistan went down to the ground. Eight women. Among minors 11 are not accompanied. A child of just 6 months also landed with Afghan parents. The landing operations were conducted by the immigration office of the police headquarters. Once in the port of Crotone the migrants were welcomed by the Italian Red Cross which provided for assistance; The health control operations were performed by the team of the Vulnerability Office of the Crotone ASP set up specifically for emergencies such as landings. The 73 people were conducted at the Sant’Anna reception center in Isola Capo Rizzuto.
