The meeting-debate “Journalism, yesterday and today”, promoted by the Rotary Club Rende, took place in the Hotel Villa Fabiano in Rende. Over 70 people took part in the event, demonstrating the strong interest in a topic that is more relevant than ever.
Two important protagonists of the Italian journalistic panorama spoke on the topic: Carlo Macrì, correspondent of the Corriere della Seraseveral times in Calabria to report on the most relevant events in the area, and Arcangelo Badolati, journalist and writer, who moderated the meeting.
The works were opened by the president of Rotary Rende, Sergio Mazzuca, and also saw the presence of Dr. Antonino Iannello, Assistant to the Governor of District 2102 of Rotary International.
During the meeting, an in-depth discussion emerged on the evolution of journalism in recent decades: from the transition from print to digital, from investigative reporting to instant social media content. The speakers underlined how journalism in the past was characterized by slower times, but also by greater verification of sources and higher trust on the part of readers. Today, however, the world of information moves in real time, but often to the detriment of depth and reliability.
In particular, we reflected on the increasingly central role of the web, social media and podcasts, which are gradually replacing traditional channels such as paper, radio and TV. The speakers therefore underlined the importance of accompanying this transformation with responsibility, competence and a critical spirit, on the part of both journalists and readers.
The evening ended with a lively debate with the audience, who asked numerous questions, stimulating further reflection.
The initiative is part of Rotary International’s commitment to promoting quality information, fighting disinformation and recognizing journalistic professionalism.
