Work will begin tomorrow on the reconstruction of the beams of the Scari landing place on Stromboli, in the Aeolian archipelago. An intervention that will allow the restoration of the transit of heavy vehicles, putting an end to the limitations imposed after the damage caused by the storm surges of Cyclone Harry, which hit Sicily between 19 and 21 January. The arrival of the pontoon is already expected this evening – a floating work platform which left Milazzo in the early afternoon – which will remove the material already demolished, thus freeing up the construction site area.

Work on the island is progressing on schedule. Last February 22, the procurement of materials, inspections by divers and the necessary demolitions were completed. The only factor that slowed down progress was the weather: over twenty days of prohibitive sea conditions had made it impossible to operate safely. Last week, with the improvement of sea conditions, the shipyard resumed its activity regularly. The contract was awarded last January 24; just three days after the storms through the Civil Engineering of Messina, at the disposal of the President of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani. With the favorable weather forecast, we will proceed without stopping. The objective remains to guarantee the full functionality of the pier to ensure the regular supply of goods and foodstuffs to citizens and businesses, and to allow the island to face the next tourist season in full efficiency.
