Reduce the distances between the healthcare institution and the citizen, streamline the management of emergency times and ensure constant contact between those who work within the departments and those waiting outside. With these objectives, the Provincial Health Authority of Crotone announces the activation of the “Caring Nurse” service in the emergency room of the city hospital. The project, operational since February 16, introduces an innovative care model entrusted to specially trained nursing staff to manage one of the most complex aspects of the emergency regime: relational support to patients and transparent communication with their family members during their stay in the facility.
A strategic synergy for the humanization of care
The initiative, strongly promoted by the General Management led by Antonio Graziano, is part of the broader regional guidelines drawn up by the President of the Region and Commissioner ad acta for Healthcare, Roberto Occhiuto, aimed at strengthening hospitality and the real humanisation of healthcare facilities throughout Calabria. The project is the result of a strategic synergy and an effective technical collaboration with the Director of the UOC of Admission and Emergency Medicine and Surgery, Francesco Zaccaria, the company Health Director, Luigi Rossi, the Medical Director of the Unit, Lucio Cosentino, and the Director of Health Professions, Salvatore Fuina. Together they outlined a structure in which the figure of the Caring Nurse guarantees 12-hour day shifts directly in the waiting room, acting as a fundamental functional link between the triage boxes, the examination rooms and the external area.
Information and “active waiting” for users
The task of these professionals is to ensure that users receive adequate information on the care path undertaken, promoting “active waiting” measures that significantly improve the perceived quality of the service and the safety of users. This evolution responds to the desire of the ASP of Crotone to concretely implement the process of humanization of care, a key principle that places the person in his entirety at the center of every healthcare protocol.
The vision of the General Management
“The introduction of the Caring Nurse is a precise organizational choice, born under the impulse of President Occhiuto’s strategic vision and fully shared with his programmatic line, which aims to qualify the entire emergency chain – declared the General Director, Antonio Graziano -. We are aware that the quality of a healthcare service is also measured by the ability to manage communication. With this new model, we integrate clinical efficiency with an essential connection function, reducing the information gray areas and guaranteeing greater assistance and dignity to the patients and their families. It is a commitment that the Company undertakes to make the Emergency Room an increasingly modern, transparent place of care that is close to the real needs of the community”.
Specialist training for a quality service
The nursing staff dedicated to the service has completed a specialist training process, managed by the ASP’s Training and Professional Development Sector, acquiring the skills necessary to manage the new role with sensitivity and professionalism. Thanks to this intervention, the Company aims to increase user satisfaction levels, transforming a moment of criticality and vulnerability into a participatory, clear and deeply human assistance path.
