The magic of Elena Curtoni and the first surprising career podium in the World Cup for Asja Zenere. It’s great Italy in the super-G of the Val di Fassa Cup which closes a triumphal weekend for Italian women’s alpine skiing after Laura Pirovano’s fantastic double in the downhill. Curtoni was the fastest on the snow of the ‘La VolatA’ slope at San Pellegrino Pass, stopping the clocks at 1’29″07. The Valtellina skier from the Army, with her fourth success on the world circuit, returned to victory after three and a half years. Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie was second at 26 hundredths. Zenere, from Vicenza of the Carabinieri and who came down with bib number 33, finished third at 27 hundredths. Fourth the Frenchwoman Romane Miradoli at 34. Pirovano eighth at 46, ninth Sofia Goggia at 64 who lost in the final stretch of the Trentino track.
«A truly fantastic day – said Felice Elena Curtoni after her fourth career success in the Super-G in Val di Fassa -. I knew I could have a good race, because it’s a track that I’ve always liked and being there in front of everyone hadn’t happened to me in a long time, but in the last few days I got excited.” In 2023, due to a bad fall in a race, she was out of action for a long time due to a fractured sacrum, but Curtoni didn’t give up: «The last few years have been very tough but today I managed to do what I wanted. I believed it, but when you don’t manage to achieve the result, doubts begin to arise. But now I’m very happy. I need validation and support, but I’m someone who does my own thing on my own. I lived the whole season trying to enjoy race after race – concluded the Valtellina – and now I’m going to the Lillehammer finals on a track that I like”.
