His name is Saverio De Salvo, 47 years old, born in Taurianova but resident in Palmi, the man arrested by the Carabinieri and ended up in prison for the fire at the Sunset Beach Club. Rosario Ranieri, also from Palmi and also 47 years old, ended up under house arrest, considered by investigators to be De Salvo’s accomplice.
According to the reconstruction of the criminal events made by the investigators and validated by the investigating judge Anna Laura Ascioti, the two would have supplied themselves with five cans of petrol at a fuel station and then De Salvo would have entered the premises and set fire to the Beach Club located at the Tonnara di Palmi. The reason, again according to the investigators coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Palmi, would be truly unprecedented: the fire and the consequent risk run by dozens of people who crowded the restaurant on the evening of Sunday 8 March would have been set in retaliation for a refusal to skip the queue to access the restaurant and the refusal of the staff, De Salvo would have had a threatening discussion with them.
This would be the motive for the fire set at the Sunset Beach Club.
