The European operation “SEATBELT”, promoted by the Roadpol network, has concluded, with the aim of strengthening road safety on the main arteries of the continent and verifying the correct use of restraint devices.

In this context, the Messina Traffic Police, together with the motorway departments, carried out targeted checks in the area. The balance of the activity is significant: 350 vehicles checked, 170 infringements contested for failure to use seat belts, 6 licenses withdrawn and 860 points deducted, as well as overall fines exceeding 15 thousand euros.

Particular attention was also paid to the use of child restraint systems, a central element of the European campaign.

The Traffic Police reiterate that failure to use seat belts represents one of the most dangerous driving behaviors: their correct use, in fact, significantly reduces the risk of death or serious injury in the event of an accident.

The police also remind you that the obligation concerns all occupants of the vehicle, including rear seat passengers, and that children must be transported exclusively in approved child seats.

The checks will continue in the next few days, with an intensification expected in view of the Easter holidays.
