They were returning from Cerzeto to Acri after having played a recovery match in Group B of the third category of Cosenza, but unfortunately the car in which they were travelling, presumably due to a tire burst and – apparently – to avoid a pothole on the asphalt, skidded, causing them to end up off the road.
The accident
Three boys were injured on board the vehicle, aged 27, 26 and 33 respectively, all Sant’Angelo d’Acri footballers who were returning to the venue. The bad accident caused other passing motorists to alert the emergency services and two ambulances and an air ambulance arrived on site, in Sellitte on the provincial road leading to Mongrassano Scalo, as well as a fire brigade unit and the carabinieri from the Bisignano station.
Relief and conditions
The young people were transported to the Annunziata in Cosenza where they underwent the necessary investigations. According to the latest news from a manager of the Acrese team “fortunately the boys are conscious and have received medical treatment at the Cosenza emergency room via CT scans and so on”.
The possible prognosis is not yet known and the strong hope is that the young people will soon be able to recover: they have received the solidarity of the other eleven teams that are part of the same amateur football group.
The race and the postponement
And to think that we were supposed to rest for Easter Eve, but the matches – not played on March 8th due to a protest by the referees – were automatically postponed to April 4th by the provincial NLD. The hope is that the boys will recover and that what happened will remain just a bad memory to be erased.
