It could have been yet another announced massacre, however, fortunately, the final balance “only” speaks of a pile of metal sheets on the sand and a lot of fear.
Today, an ultralight aircraft crashed on the beach of Grisolia Lido, in the province of Cosenza, ending its journey near the “Lido Internascional”. The aircraft, a two-seater P92 Tecnam with three axles (high wing), had taken off from Syracuse and was supposed to reach Grumento Nova, in the Potenza area. A journey that cut across Southern Italy and ended abruptly on the Calabrian coast.
The causes remain to be ascertained: mechanical failure, human error or lack of maintenance? The investigations will have to establish this. There were two occupants on board the vehicle who, despite the violent impact, escaped the wreckage unharmed.
Coincidentally, at the time of the crash, there were no passers-by or swimmers in the path of the fall.
The team from the Scalea detachment intervened on site and worked for hours to secure the area and prevent fires or fuel spills, the Carabinieri of the Diamante Company and the Port Authority began the usual investigations. The 118 personnel instead assisted the two pilots.
