It was his first outing as a mayoral candidate. Francesco Cannizzaro called a press conference, which in fact was a great electoral event, in the now cramped headquarters of the regional secretariat of FI. «It was my duty to present myself in front of the journalists – he explained – and then I thought it would be correct to do so even before the Easter holidays». Not a programmatic conference, but indicative of what will be the method of an electoral campaign, which even before leaving, Cannizzaro defined «the most beautiful and exciting of my life. I made this choice with my heart and with my head.” This too is a way of charging the many supporters of the party, but also of the other parties of the coalition present in the room. «We are a great team – said Cannizzaro – expression of a system already widely tested in the Region, and you know well how well the Regional Government is working in Calabria and for our city and for our province. It works, because there is a great President, the best in the history of Calabrian regionalism. But it works – he added – because there is that institutional chain, which thanks to Forza Italia and the centre-right starts from Brussels and reaches Calabria”.
Many things were announced and anticipated by the candidate for Mayor. By Saturday the presentation of the “Mayor’s list”, «which will not include outgoing councilors but only new candidates – he anticipated – with whom I feel obliged to form the new ruling class of this city. I will change this city and I will only do it with teamwork. It won’t be easy. But Reggio will have to be certain of one thing: I will give it my all.” Then, a mention of the future council, «which will be of the first level, with councilors who will have to give up their workstation from the moment they accept the position, to dedicate themselves exclusively to the commitment for the city. A principle from which I do not intend to renounce.”
