The international posture and the expensive energy. Economic data and labor policies. Industrial production and the latest news stories that have affected ministers and undersecretaries. The opposition in the Chamber brings out a complex arsenal to launch the attack on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Albeit with different nuances, the broad field is united on a clear message: “four years of nothing from the government, now it’s our turn”.

The gaze of center-left leaders is already turned to policies

“We are ready”, is the warning directed to the prime minister. Despite the issues to be resolved for the construction of the alternative, leadership first and foremost, the analysis of the political situation is shared. He starts from a photograph of the referendum vote and insists on a government ‘in difficulty’, or worse, ‘floating’.

The secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein returns to the challenge of the referendum already lost by the prime minister and sinks: “in four years you had the numbers to do everything and you did nothing, it will be up to us to build an alternative in defense of the Constitution”. The Democratic leader cites the executive’s “failures” on health, school and precarious work. And he symbolically sends Meloni “a postcard from the real country”. Then, in Transatlantico, he comments on the president’s speech: “one could have expected a relaunch on some topic and instead we heard the usual repertoire”. M5S president Giuseppe Conte is of the same opinion. «Meloni is in removal mode, – he explains speaking to reporters – he remains tied to his mistakes and there is no possibility of recovery. They will be useless months.” In the Chamber the five-star leader uses harsh words on foreign policy. He defines the prime minister as “accomplice to Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocide” and “co-responsible for the destruction of international law by Donald Trump”. Hence the accusation of “telling a mythological reality”. «The referendum alarm – Conte insists – did not ring at Palazzo Chigi. Meloni cited large numbers, but not two small numbers: four years, zero reforms.” Faced with the risk of an Italy “in canvas trousers”, the former prime minister recalls the numerous “shared proposals” in the broad field. And he warns: “we are ready for the progressive challenge and we will send it home.” Leitmotif that also returns in the words of Avs leader Angelo Bonelli. “We have no problems, we are ready to govern,” he says. Tease the prime minister with JD Vance’s recent statements. She mutters and he insists: “I see her nervous.” Bonelli opposes the center-left’s proposals to the “nothingness of the four years of government”. Then, the stab: “today you made the speech about your decline, the opening speech of your electoral campaign.” Same accusation made by Riccardo Magi of Più Europa, according to which the government is in an “irreversible crisis”. From the Senate, however, it is the leader of Italia Viva Matteo Renzi who attacks. He does not fail to mention “the Conte problem, but not Giuseppe”, referring to the Piantedosi case. «You have one chance to remain standing, – he adds – that of dividing the opposition. Because if the opposition stays united, the ‘no’ that resounds – that of the referendum – is a no that will lead you to pack your bags between now and 2027. The Vinavil government has a very clear expiration date, soon it will be our turn.” But Carlo Calenda doesn’t seem to fit into this ‘we’, according to whom the broad field “is not ready to govern”. The leader of Action reiterates his willingness to dialogue with the government, as long as “without fights”. The Prime Minister appreciates it and thanks him.
