Fifteen days after the deadline for the presentation of the lists, the framework of the candidatures is taking shape in Giardini Naxos in view of the administrative elections of 24 and 25 May. But there is no shortage of news. The latest concerns the withdrawal of the candidacy for mayor of Antonio Veroux, mayor from 1979 to 1989 and councilor until 1994, who presented himself to the voters five times (1994, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2020) and a month ago, a few weeks before his 85th birthday, he made his sixth run official to try to return to the highest seat in Palazzo dei Naxiots. Now, however, there has been a step backwards: «I have communicated to my group that I am not available to run – explained the former mayor -. I felt it was better to stay out of this competition, my heart hurts because I love the city of Giardini Naxos like a daughter, but even though many people had asked me to take the field, I didn’t see the enthusiasm needed to build a political project. My group will meet and decide what to do, but I won’t be there.”
