The final phase of the Certame Pareysoniano was held in Cuneo on 17-18 April. Ten boys and girls from classical high schools across Italy confronted each other by discussing a text previously developed and selected for the final phase. The topic chosen by the Center for Philosophical Studies on Pareyson of Turin had as its object an urgently topical issue, given the international political scenario in which we find ourselves, but also a question that has always questioned philosophy and thought: peace. “We are used to distinguishing between different forms of war: preventive war, cold war, civil war, guerrilla warfare. Are there also different forms of peace? Is it possible to say that, like war, peace is also expressed in many ways? If so, which ones?”.
The student Enrico Pagano attending the VD class of the “Maurolico” classical high school directed by Professor Giovanna De Francesco and accompanied by Professor Ardizzone Maria Catena, stood out for the depth of his arguments on peace, underlining its political and ethical, but also theoretical and anthropological nuances. Peace not only seen as a political condition, but also as an anthropological metaphor, as a psychological and social condition, as a metaphysical, religious and existential theme. In this way, addressing the multiple nuances of the issue, the student distinguished himself by obtaining second place with the compliments of Professor Roberto Orsi of the University of Tokyo. The result confirms Maurolico among the schools of excellence on the national scene
