An investigation file has been opened to shed full light on the death of a 64-year-old man, which occurred in recent days at the “Guido Compagna” hospital in Corigliano. The victim is a highly esteemed and well-known figure throughout the Upper Ionian: he is the former commander of the Francavilla Marittima Carabinieri station Leonardo De Leo. The investigations were triggered by the formal complaint presented by the ex-soldier’s family immediately after his death. The relatives ask for clarification on the clinical dynamics that led to the loss of their loved one, verifying whether there were medical responsibilities or negligence and whether the family member received adequate care in relation to his clinical situation. Upon receiving the complaint, the Castrovillari Public Prosecutor’s Office immediately activated the necessary protocols.
The first formal act was the seizure of the body of the former soldier, which was transferred to the morgue of the “Nicola Giannettasio” hospital complex in Rossano. Here, in the next few hours, a forensic doctor will be appointed to carry out the autopsy examination, a step considered crucial by investigators to establish with certainty the causes of death. In parallel with the seizure of the body, the judicial authority ordered the acquisition of the medical records and all the medical documentation produced during the period of hospitalization of the 64-year-old at the Corigliano hospital. The documents have already been acquired to reconstruct every phase of the medical treatment received by the former Carabinieri Commander, from the moment of hospitalization until the tragic epilogue.
