Crisis of hope for young Calabrians, the flight towards the North does not stop

In Calabria, for now, that sense of loneliness continues to prevail. Here everything becomes difficult, sometimes impossible. This is the land of abandonment, a land that politicians fill exclusively with promises. In reality, from Eboli onwards, another Italy begins, an Italy that moves more slowly, obligatory delays and denied rights. There is the issue of treatment, for example, which forces people to leave (expenses for passive mobility have once again exceeded 300 million euros). And then there are the other essential services such as schools, transport and roads. Negativity that feeds that mass flight that moves, above all, younger people towards places that ensure better living conditions, with efficient services and the possibility of guaranteeing a quality job in a short time.
The most acute point of social and economic decline is represented precisely by the youth universe. Here, those under 35 show mixed signals. Employment grew by 4.1%, in contrast to the rest of the country. The youth employment rate rises to 30.3%, but remains among the lowest in Italy (only Campania does worse). And above all, a figure weighs heavily which tells us more than anything else about the fragility of the system: youth unemployment stands at 18%, while NEETs (young people who do not study or work) are 20.8%.
