Moments of fear yesterday morning in the center of Milazzo, where a young man in a clear state of psychophysical alteration caused panic by attacking passers-by for no reason. The episode occurred shortly before 9am, on the corner between Piazza Roma and Via Umberto I, near a well-known fish shop. The first victims of the violence were two women, both in their seventies. The first, who was walking with a shopping bag, was hit in the face with a violent punch that made her fall to the ground bleeding. A scene that was repeated a few meters further on, where the young man attacked another elderly woman, wounding her in the face with an equally brutal blow. The boy, described by several witnesses as wearing a pair of dark glasses, then headed towards Piazza Roma, where he targeted a group of elderly men sitting on benches, also hitting one of them. It was at that point that the owner of the fish shop, witness to the scene, launched himself in pursuit of the fleeing twenty-year-old, managing to follow him to the Ponente coast, near the former Le Cupole meeting place. Coast Guard personnel were in the area and, alerted by the trader’s screams, intervened immediately and managed, not without difficulty, to stop the young man. During the intervention, in fact, the attacker went into a rage. Shortly afterwards, a police patrol arrived on the scene and took over the boy, who was joined immediately afterwards by his father.
