Three people were injured, including two women, one in serious condition, in a terrifying accident along the “Jonio-Tirreno” highway which occurred near the Gioiosa Jonica junction just before 1am yesterday. In the extremely violent impact, the causes of which have not yet been fully clarified, although the initial dynamics of the accident, which immediately appeared plausible, had already been ascertained by the Carabinieri investigators, three people from the area were seriously injured, as mentioned: a married couple from Siderno and a woman from Gioiosa Jonica. Two cars were involved in the very violent frontal-lateral collision: a Volkswagen UP driven by a woman from Gioiosa Jonica and an Audi with a husband and wife from Siderno on board. According to what emerged from the first technical findings carried out by the carabinieri of the radiomobile unit of the Roccella Company and by the soldiers of the Gioiosa Jonica and Marina di Gioiosa stations, the two cars were, in the opposite direction, passing on the Ionian – Tyrrhenian Sea near the Gioiosa junction when suddenly, perhaps due to a wrong maneuver or carelessness of one of the drivers, they collided. The impact, mostly frontal, was particularly violent. Also following some reports to 112, the firefighters and the medical and paramedical staff of 118 arrived at the scene. The three were transported to the Locri emergency room but transfer to another hospital cannot be ruled out for the driver of the Volkswagen in the near future. None of the three injured, however, were considered life-threatening by the medics.
