The investigating judge of the Court of Crotone revoked the detention in prison by ordering house arrest for Fabio Manica, former vice-president of the Province of Crotone, arrested on 17 April as part of the Teorema operation on alleged corruption in the organisation’s procurement and considered by investigators to be the central and top figure of the alleged system. The judge thus accepted the appeal presented by Manica’s lawyers, Roberto Coscia and Francesco Gambardella.
The judicial investigation, in which there are 19 suspects, conducted by the Financial Police, revolves around an alleged ring of corruption and bid rigging aimed at subordinating public functions to private interests. At the center of the investigation are some contracts managed by the provincial administration for the maintenance and safety of school buildings. According to the reconstruction of the Prosecutor’s Office, the procedures for the awarding of public works were systematically piloted in order to favor a specific network of local entrepreneurs and professionals in exchange for illicit favors and benefits.
