A possible new mission requires “a real truce, a legal framework and the authorization of Parliament”. This was reiterated by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, in a hearing before the Foreign Affairs and Defense Commissions of the House and Senate on international initiatives for the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
“We bring two minehunters closer to Hormuz, but we wait for peace”
«Should peace break out, it would take almost a month of navigation for all the units of the allied nations to reach the Gulf. As a precaution we are arranging for two minehunter units to be positioned relatively closer to the Strait: initially in the eastern Mediterranean, subsequently in the Red Sea, as part of the missions already underway such as Mediterranean Safe and Aspides, and within the authorized framework of Italy’s international mission”. Prepare to intervene today to intervene tomorrow, if possible.” Thus the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, to the Foreign and Defense commissions.
