First data on turnout for the administrative elections of 24-25 May. As regards Sicily, in Messina, the most important municipality voting in this round, with the data on the 253 total sections we are at 13.88%. Milazzo is at 15.49%, Barcellona at 13.57%.

Analysis of the turnout report
The data on turnout in the 2026 administrative elections for the province of Messina, updated at 12pm on May 24, show a general downward trend compared to previous elections. The analysis reveals a heterogeneous picture, with some significant exceptions in some smaller municipalities.

General data
The total aggregate data for the municipalities listed in the table reveals a decline in overall turnout. At 12 pm on May 24, 2026, the percentage of voters was 13.82%, compared to the 16.63% recorded in the previous local elections. This represents a net decrease of 2.75%. Although it is still early to draw definitive conclusions, this preliminary data suggests a possible lower participation of citizens in this electoral round compared to the last.

​Trend by municipality
​Most of the municipalities analyzed show a decrease in turnout. The most drastic drop is recorded in Mirto, with a difference of -9.67% (from 17.06% to 7.38%). Significant declines are also observed in Savoca (-5.58%), Raccuja (-4.87%), Meri (-4.66%), Basicò (-2.20%) and Saponara (-2.25%). Messina, the municipality with the largest number of voters (188,540), also marked a decline, with a turnout of 13.88% compared to the previous 16.63%, a difference of -2.75%. Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, another important centre, also recorded a decrease, although more slight (-0.14%).

The exceptions: municipalities with growing turnout
Despite the general downward trend, some smaller municipalities show an increase in participation compared to previous elections. Malvagna recorded the most significant growth, with a leap of +5.62% (from 10.42% to 16.03%). Naso also presents a notable increase of +3.27% (from 5.53% to 8.80%). Other municipalities that see a slight growth are San Salvatore di Fitalia (+2.11%) and Milazzo (+2.00%).
