The “electoral silence” has descended on the streets but certainly not on social media. On Friday evening in Piazza della Resistenza but also in via Israel and in the districts, the rallies of the candidates for mayor consumed the last fires of an electoral campaign, characterized by quite a bit of confusion. On Sunday and Monday, voters will go to the polls to decide who will administer Crotone for the next 5 years. The match could end today if one of the contenders were to exceed the threshold of 50.01 percent of valid votes. Or the race could have an appendix on June 7 and 8 with a run-off between the first two most voted candidates. Voters will have to choose between the continuity embodied by the outgoing mayor Vincenzo Voce or the discontinuity represented by the other three “competitors”. There are two heterogeneous coalitions and two civic lists in the running. Voce leads an alliance made up of four civic groups joined by the Fratelli d’Italia list and the one made up of Forza Italia and “Democracy is freedom” which also includes candidates from “We Moderates”. It is an organic centre-right coalition.
On the other side there is the centre-left, or rather the progressive coalition, which is running for mayor the environmentalist and animal rights lawyer, Giuseppe Trocino, supported by 4 lists (two civic, plus the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement). In the middle, there are the civic party led by the sociologist Vito Barresi and the “Rights and Health” list led by the outgoing city councilor Fabrizio Meo.
