Polling stations reopened from 7am this morning until 3pm today for the second and final day of administrative voting which in Sicily involves 71 municipalities (3 capitals, with the city of the Strait as the leader), while 77 bodies are involved in Calabria (including Reggio, Crotone and 3 other centers with over 15 thousand inhabitants). Once the operations are concluded, the counting will begin.
Meanwhile, the third turnout data, recorded at 11pm yesterday, shows a good trend in Reggio Calabria. At 11pm, 48.36% of eligible voters went to the polls, compared to 49.47% in 2020. However, Crotone, the other Calabrian provincial capital involved in the electoral round, saw a slight decline. In the Pythagorean city, the turnout was 48.06% compared to 51.54% in 2020. In Calabria, the overall turnout in the 77 bodies called to elect the mayor and renew the municipal council, 47.04% of those entitled to vote voted. In the other three municipalities with a population exceeding 15 thousand inhabitants: in Castrovillari 45.88% (44.35%) is already expressed, in San Giovanni in Fiore 44.64% (42.61%) and in Palmi 47.43% (63.83%).
As regards Sicily, in Messina, the most important municipality voting in this round, with data on the 253 sections, we are at 46.46%. Milazzo is at 54.74%, while Barcellona is at 53.65%.
In Messina city yesterday it was a substantially calm day, even if inevitably characterized by tensions and controversies at the polling stations. In one section, two counterfeit ballots were reported, and then replaced. In the evening, long queues were created inside some school buildings and there were some episodes of nervousness.
