The polls reopened at 7 this morning for the second day of administrative voting which in Sicily involves 71 municipalities and 3 capitals (Agrigento and Enna as well as the city of the Strait). Voting will continue until 3pm. The counting will begin immediately afterwards.
The turnout at 11pm yesterday
The data on turnout at 11pm yesterday, the first day of voting for the local elections of 24-25 May. As regards Sicily, in Messina, the most important municipality voting in this round, with data on the 253 sections, we are at 46.46%. Milazzo is at 54.74%, while Barcellona is at 53.65%.
The data on turnout in the 2026 administrative elections for the province of Messina, updated at 11pm on May 24, show a general downward trend compared to previous elections in the capital: Messina, in fact, with 46.46% is below the 55.57% of four years ago.
Trend by municipality
Most of the municipalities analyzed show a decrease in turnout. The most drastic drop is recorded in Savoca, with a difference of 19.85%. Significant declines are also observed in Mirto (-15.57%), Raccuja (-7.93%), Meri (-11.58%). On the other hand, Milazzo (+2.28%) and Barcellona (+0.61%) are on the rise.
News from the polls
In Messina city yesterday it was a substantially calm day, even if inevitably characterized by tensions and controversies at the polling stations. In one section, two counterfeit ballots were reported, and then replaced. In the evening, long queues were created inside some school buildings and there were some episodes of nervousness.
Quorum reached: three municipalities already have a mayor
In three municipalities in the province, in which there was only one candidate running, the quorum was already reached yesterday evening. This is Raccuja, who thus reconfirmed Ivan Martella; the same goes for San Salvatore di Fitalia with Giuseppe Pizzolante and for Mirto, who has effectively entrusted the third mandate to Maurizio Zingales.
