The great female figures of myth, crossed by contemporary themes such as war, memory, identity and resistance, will be the common thread of the Mythos Troina Festival 2026, the theatrical review directed by Luigi Tabita recognized by the Ministry of Culture and sponsored by Inda – National Institute of Ancient Drama, which will enliven the cultural summer of Troina with ten national premieres, great performers and new dramaturgy.
Troina, a Nebrodi village rich in history, art and natural beauty, is today also the symbol of a territory that has chosen to react to the difficulties linked to depopulation and infrastructural problems by investing in culture as a tool for growth and regeneration. In this path, culture and theater have become one of the main drivers of the development of the territory, transforming the Mythos Troina Festival into a project that combines live entertainment, identity, participation and valorisation of the village.
The festival will open on 3 July at the Radura Amphitheater with the national premiere of «Who’s afraid of the Minotaur? Voices of women in times of war”, project, text and direction by Marco Carniti taken from “Looking at women, looking at war” by Victòria Amelina. The protagonist is Ester Pantano, a face much loved by the general public for her role in the Rai 1 series «Makari», alongside Antonella Civale, Selene Gandini, Ginevra Di Marco and Gaia Bevilacqua. The show addresses the theme of war through the testimonies of Ukrainian women, transforming the myth of the Minotaur into a powerful contemporary metaphor.
On July 10th there will be space for «Elena» by Euripides, directed by Nicasio Anzelmo and a cast composed of, among others, Anna Teresa Rossini and Silvia Siravo. On 17 July, the national premiere of «Si prova Antigone», dramaturgical elaboration and direction by Mauro Avogadro, Inda production set in Nazi-occupied Paris, which puts Sophocles’ classic into dialogue with the anxieties of the present through the work of the students of the Inda Academy.
Among the most anticipated events is also the national premiere of «Il canto di Penelope» by Margaret Atwood, directed by Marcello Cotugno and starring Lunetta Savino, on stage on 24 July. A contemporary and feminist rereading of the figure of Penelope, no longer a passive symbol of waiting but a woman capable of exercising silent and strategic power.
The «Solos» section will then host three new national premiere productions at the Torre Capitania by three women. On 28 and 29 July “Andromaca – the candor of the swan” by Gianni Guardigli will be staged, with Daniela Giovannetti and directed by Valeria Almerighi, a show that explores the themes of war, loss and female resistance, intertwining myth and dramatic current events. On 30 and 31 July it will be the turn of «Forgotten Polissena», written and directed by Aurora Miriam Scala, starring Federica De Benedittis, historical face of «Il Paradiso delle Signore» and interpreter of numerous Rai and Mediaset dramas. On 1 and 2 August the festival will continue with «Sing Orpheus Sing», written and directed by Noemi Francesca and starring Dario Guidi.
The festival will conclude with the «OltreMythos» section, which will bring to the stage, in suggestive locations of the Norman village, two other national premieres: «The Conspiracy of Nobody» with Sergio Beercock and Giovanni Alfieri, on 6 August and, as the great final event of the festival, «Tiresia Teiresías», on 8 August, starring one of the greatest masters of Italian theater and cinema, Leo Gullotta, directed by Fabio Grossi.
