“In Calabria, in the fields, people live and die for a few euros. The massacre at the Amendolara service station which saw four labourers, three Afghan citizens and a Pakistani man burned alive, with only one survivor, is a blow to the conscience of a country like ours”. The deputy of the 5 Star Movement Anna Laura Orrico stated this in a note released through her social channels.

“Modern slaves of a criminal system”

“They were killed only because they asked to be paid,” claims the five-star representative, recalling how the victims lived crowded together in an apartment in Villapiana. “Dehumanized, tired and in need of being able to support their families. Modern slaves of soulless corporals, cogs in a criminal system that we often pretend not to see so we can then find the first fruits in our shops at a low price.”

The appeal to ascertain responsibility

Orrico hopes that the competent authorities will shed full light on the matter and that controls against labor exploitation will be strengthened.

“I hope that full light will be shed on the matter by the competent authorities and that controls for the future will be even more rigorous, but above all I hope that these four men who rebelled against exploitation did not die in vain”, concludes the deputy of the 5 Star Movement.
