The activity of the Milazzo Coast Guard continues to protect legality in the fishing supply chain and consumer food safety. This morning, as part of the scheduled checks on the marketing of fishery products, the staff of the Port Authority carried out a series of checks at the Mamertine port, checking the commercial vehicles disembarked from the liner ships coming from the Aeolian Islands archipelago.
The check on the isothermal van
During the operations, Coast Guard inspectors inspected an isothermal van belonging to a company in the Messina area operating in the trade of fish products. Inside the vehicle, several batches of squid intended for the local market were found, for a total quantity of approximately 180 kilograms.
Irregularities in traceability
The investigations highlighted serious deficiencies in terms of product traceability. The transported fish batches were in fact devoid of the necessary documentation to certify their origin and to guarantee their complete traceability along the entire commercial chain.
Furthermore, the inspected containers lacked the mandatory information required by community legislation for the marketing of fishery products.
Seizure and sanction
In light of the irregularities found, the fish product was subjected to administrative seizure. The person responsible for the offense was fined an administrative fine of 2,000 euros.
The activity is part of the ordinary checks carried out by the Coast Guard to ensure compliance with the rules on the traceability of fish products and consumer protection.
