Flavio Cobolli flies directly to the final at Roland Garros. Matteo Arnaldi, in fact, was forced to withdraw due to a virus and will not be able to play in the semi-final scheduled for today at 7pm on Philippe-Chatrier. The Roman tennis player thus reaches the last act of the tournament without taking the court and on Sunday at 3pm he will challenge the German Alexander Zverev in the final of the Parisian Slam.
Matteo Arnaldi’s words after the forfeit
“It’s hard being here, it’s not what I wanted to do but last night I started to feel unwell. Yesterday I was fine and trained. After dinner I felt a bit like that, but I thought I hadn’t digested. At 1am I started vomiting. Then I tried to sleep, then I vomited again at 7am.” Thus Matteo Arnaldi, in a press conference, after the forfeit announced for the Roland Garros semi-final against Flavio Cobolli.
«Withdrawing from the first Slam semi-final is something you don’t wish on anyone»
“I didn’t sleep. I called the doctor. I hoped it might be something that would go away, but it didn’t get better, I couldn’t eat. Withdrawing from your first Slam semi-final is something you don’t wish on anyone. I tried to see if I could play, but every time I got up I felt sick. I think it’s some sort of virus, because I felt cold. I think I had a fever during the day”, adds Arnaldi.
