Reggio Calabria, the political “geography” changes: Pazzano wins a seat in the chamber

While the newly proclaimed mayor Francesco Cannizzaro signs the first measures and works on the council, a shock to the composition of the municipal council comes from the electoral commission: Saverio Pazzano – mayoral candidate who also finished behind Mimmo Battaglia and Eduardo Lamberti-Castronuovo – wins a seat in the chamber, to the detriment of the majority awarded at the polls (specifically Popular Alternative).
The news had been in the air for days, yesterday it became certain: all that is missing is the official announcement. What changes the initial scenario are just 7 votes, decisive results in the counts with the d’Hont method, a mathematical formula used in proportional electoral systems to assign seats in order to reflect the votes received by the different lists.
An interesting political fact is that Pazzano’s seat is lost by the majority, which thus drops from 24 to 23 representatives. Emiliano Imbalzano missed out on a seat in the chamber and, with 969 preferences, became the second most voted among the non-elected. But Alternativa Popolare – which thus remains with only one seat, assigned to Massimo Ripepi – has already made it known that it is ready to appeal. In turn, the opposition wins a representative who, however, is not part of the broad camp (or what remains of it in Reggio) that supported Battaglia’s candidacy for mayor.

In the past few hours, meanwhile, the new presidents of the “resurrected” Constituencies were also proclaimed: the polls awarded Simone Lacava (centre-right) to the first, Giovanni Muraca (centre-left) to the second, Emanuela Chirico (centre-right) to the third, Giuseppe Cantarella (centre-right) to the fourth and Caterina Pitasi (centre-right) to the fifth.
