After the great success of the first editions, “This Must Be The Place” (TMBTP) returns until 25 August, a highly anticipated Crotone event that combines music and archeology conceived and strongly supported by the director of the archaeological parks of Crotone and Sibari Filippo Demma, financed by the Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of Entertainment and hosted in the places of ancient Kroton, still today a symbol of what was Magna Graecia in its period of maximum splendor. The event, organized in close synergy with the XXV edition of the Peperoncino Jazz Festival, was officially inaugurated yesterday evening in the splendid setting of Le Castella in Isola Capo Rizzuto on the engaging notes of Toca Tango, a duo formed by the singer and guitarist of Argentine origins Christian Gaudenti (also involved with the cajon, a typical South American percussion) and the accordionist Camillo Maffia (also very skilled with the bandoneòn, the symbolic instrument of tango), in a fascinating acoustic journey through tango atmospheres.
From today to Sunday the event will experience a very intense “four days” in the suggestive Theater inside the Archaeological Park of Capo Colonna in Crotone with the events of the program born from the partnership with the hottest jazz event in the world, organized by the Picanto cultural association and artistically directed by Sergio Gimigliano. Today the highly anticipated performance of Joe Barbieri, a refined Neapolitan artist who as an outsider of Italian songwriting, contaminated with jazz and world music, has conquered the public with poetry and elegance. Accompanied by guitarists Nico Di Battista and Oscar Monalbano he will present the best of his repertoire to the public. Friday will be the turn of one of the most engaging crooners on the national jazz scene: Gianluca Guidi who will present the project «That’s Life!», a real journey in music and words into the universe of Frank Sinatra of which he will re-propose all the most famous songs. He will be accompanied by three authentic champions of international jazz – the pianist Michele Di Martino, the double bass player Tommaso Scannapieco and the drummer Luigi Del Prete. On the evening of Saturday 25th, the legendary Tony Esposito, Pino Daniele’s historic percussionist and iconic figure of Italian and international music, will be on stage, bringing his fascinating project “Il Viaggio di Ulisse” to the stage, a show conceived as a profound and passionate homage to the memory of the unforgettable Neapolitan singer-songwriter. Through his unmistakable percussion and sounds that blend tradition and modernity, Esposito will guide the audience on an artistic journey that tells the essence of Naples, its deep roots and its vibrant soul. The event, in addition to celebrating Pino Daniele, presents itself as an opportunity to rediscover the musical and cultural influences that have made Naples a crossroads of creativity.
For the grand finale, on Sunday, the scene will be all for the Calabria Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Maestro Filippo Arlia, who for the occasion will host, as a special guest, the saxophonist and director of the Performing Arts of New York University, Dave Schroeder, offering the public a journey into the tango repertoire.
The Crotone program will be completed next month with the acoustic walks conducted by the singer-songwriter Sasà Calabrese in the National Archaeological Museum of Capo Colonna: on 7 August with the project «Rino Gaetano, the Poet Against the Wind» and on the 23rd «Pino Daniele, the Voice of the Mediterranean».
