Anthony Barbagallo is ready to convene the center-left table to propose to his allies to set the primaries for choosing the candidate for president of the Region. A move that has the aim of shaking up the broad field and speaking, however, also to the internal front of the Democratic Party which has once again returned to ask for his resignation as party secretary.
Faced with the splits in the centre-right, the centre-left experiences an acceleration. Despite the clear victory in the local elections it did not allow the divisions to be overcome, especially those within the parties.
Over the weekend, Barbagallo brought together the party leadership, which with 104 votes in turn approved the report that officially puts the primaries on the table: “This will be the model that we will submit to our allies in the next meetings and discussions”, said the secretary, who also spoke to the allies by telephone yesterday. The first to accept the invitation was Fabio Giambrone, Sicilian leader of Avs: «In the presence of various availability, the choice can only go through the primaries».
Giambrone’s reference is to the fact that just over the weekend Ismaele La Vardera confirmed that he had no intention of giving up his candidacy, launched in January well before the wide field took shape. And yesterday, however, La Vardera said (in her own way) that she was available to compete in the primaries: “Provided that they are primaries in which even the dead don’t go to vote, I will be there.” Reference to the highly contested primaries for the regional secretariat of the Democratic Party. Vardera will ask the wide camp to meet in Agrigento to find a common line for the regional elections.
