A 21-year-old girl died in Brazil after being accidentally thrown into the void without a safety harness during a bungee jumping activity from the Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, in the state of Sao Paulo. The victim had entrusted a private company to try the experience, but the instructors apparently gave the signal to jump without having correctly fixed the equipment.
The jump from the viaduct without the hook
The jump was made from a viaduct between 30 and 35 meters high, which is popular in the region for adventure activities and extreme sports. According to what has been reconstructed, the young woman was given the green light to launch before the rope was correctly attached.
Six arrests and legal action by the Municipality
Military Police arrested six people connected to the event. The City Council also announced legal action against the federal government for alleged negligence in its oversight of the bridge.
The video on social media and the rescue efforts
The dramatic episode was captured on video, then spread on social media: the screams of those present can be heard, who notice the missing rope just as the young woman is in free fall. Witnesses and members of the organization attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the medical team that arrived on site confirmed his death from multiple traumas.
