A bang in the middle of the night. As if a bomb had exploded. These are the dramatic moments of desperation, recounted by a witness, of the car accident in Mykonos, where Sara Ceccantini, the 37-year-old woman, in Greece for her hen party, died.
The reconstruction of the crash
«In the car there were three girls and a man driving. The car was going uphill, then stopped to make a u-turn, which is prohibited” because, says the witness, the road is characterized by a double continuous line. “And the other car coming down from the other direction came at full speed and hit her.”
The two drivers of the cars were stopped and released by the Greek authorities. One of the two is a friend of Sara who was driving the car while the other is a Greek citizen. Both underwent tests, including tests to see if they were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and tested negative.
The rescue and the consequences of the impact
«I heard a bang, as if a bomb had exploded. We ran outside. I saw the girls, they were covered in blood. Two of them were completely unconscious. We called 112, help arrived quickly.”
According to his story, the impact was so violent that the car of the Italian group crashed into other cars parked nearby at a convenience store. The Greek driver driving the other car is believed to be a boy, a resident of Mykonos. On the stretch of road where the accident occurred there are minimarkets and small shops, many of which were still open at the time, around midnight, when the collision allegedly occurred.
The hen party ended in tragedy
The accident occurred on the night between 14 and 15 June in Mykonos. Sara Ceccantini was on the island for her hen party: the wedding with her partner Luca was planned in Civitella in Val di Chiana. Shortly before the crash the woman had phoned her future husband reassuring him that she would return to the hotel. Then the violent impact.
Investigations underway and waiting for the return of the body
According to what her companion reported, the impact would have been particularly violent on the right side of the car, where Sara was sitting.
A friend was also injured in the accident, hospitalized in intensive care in a hospital in Athens and currently on alert. The dynamics remain under examination by the Greek authorities who ordered the autopsy. The return of the body to Italy, followed by family members present in Greece, could take a few more days. The same days in which Sara Ceccantini would have worn a wedding dress.
