Explosion, during the night, in one of the shantytowns of Corigliano Rossano where foreign laborers find refuge. A hell of fire and desperation. Four people were pulled alive from the flames thanks to the courage and determination of the Volante officers and the Corigliano Rossano public safety police station, who put their lives at risk for the rescue. The most critical moment was the explosion of a gas cylinder which directly hit the police officers who remained miraculously unharmed.

One of the laborers was burned over 85% of his body and was transferred to the major burns center in Brindisi. The shantytown is located in Boscarello, in Corigliano.

The flames devastated the two structures of the shantytown and throughout the night we worked to put out a large fire which at dawn today was still sending columns of black smoke into the sky.
